Zombie Girl

Here's a picture that I just finished. It's acrylic on paper, 11 by 17. It went much faster than the Strawberry picture mostly because of the difference in size!

The show last weekend was a blast, and I met a lot of great people. Special thanks to those of you that came out to see me there. I'm going to post some pictures from the show over the next couple of days. And it looks like I'm in for next year, so I'm already looking forward to what's next!

Wow, that's fantastic. I don't know how you find the time for these side projects with all your comics work.

Darin, you should! It's very fullfilling... I love finishing a picture and knowing that the image is fully realized, rather than having to go to color and inks and not having the same level of control.

Leigh, I don't know either. Mostly I just don't ever just sit! My life is wake up, manage kids, work, manage kids, and then if I've worked enough, I can paint for a few hours before I sleep. It's absolutely worth it though. In a way it feels like an uphill climb painting just because it's really not what my audience expects, or necessarily wants from me, but I have to do it. The toughest part is that I'm using my painting now to experiment and go in different directions from my comic work. I'm finding that it's very tough not so much to try something different, but to put it out there. Especially when I'm still searching for direction.

Inspiring words Dave, I have always believed in "art for art's sake" as something that is cathartic for the soul. Soon as I bring my penciling up to snuff I'll join you in some random acts of painting.

Well it's great that you actually make the time for this.
Me, I find it hard enough to balance work and private life, so any personal projects I start NEVER get finished. Any experimentation I want to achieve, I have to find a way to incorporate it into my paid work.

This profession was sooo much easier when I was young and single...
