I couldn't stay away...

So I was in Ohio two weeks ago, and everybody there was so incredibly nice. Someone I met in San Diego even gave me the bag with my artwork on it that they were giving away at San Diego that I never got at the time. I got asked about my blog, and I feel like I forgot why I started it in the first place. Sure, there's headaches, but ultimately it's about all the people who I meet at shows, and online who are so supportive and positive.

I was thinking about putting a watermark on my art, but honestly, that kind of technology is beyond me. I'm just going to let it go, and deal with ebay when it comes up. It's worth it.

So anyway, since I don't have much to contribute beyond that, I'm going to put up some new art.

I am so glad you're back!!! I was still subscribed via RSS and didn't think I'd ever see another post by you. I got all emotional! lol

Thank you for coming back!!! I hope no one steals your art... but yeah, that was a sad day that you disappeared and I totally complained about it.

So glad to see you back!!

Ohh, and I forgot to say - awesome art! I LOVE it. My favorite is your Lobo... wow. AMAZING. You have such great concepts and you really execute them, too.

If it's a problem just post only tutorials or WIPs. To be honest, I could get your completed or even some of your pencil works anywhere.

It's the process and instructional pieces I find more valuable.

That's awesome that you're posting again. It's really cool to put your art out there for all of us to see. And I LOVE the green arrow piece. That painting just tells so much of a story and the moment you capture in that story has such drama. Just great. Keep drawing and painting :)

Woo hoo you're back! You have one of the most powerful pencil work in the industry! I think you could stop these jerks from stealing your work by reducing the size of the images by half or something. As much as I love seeing your lineworks up close, I don't like when people steal others work!

YAAAAAAYYYY!!! Oh happy day!!! I'm so glad to see you posting here again man! This is awesome!

Also, if you want to watermark your art, but don't want to bother with the tech, you might wanna try posting on deviantArt as they have an option for watermarking pieces as you upload them.

Or in Photoshop, just create a new layer over your finished scan of your pencils, add your watermark text or logo onto the new layer and then drop the opacity to something low and that's pretty much it -- you're good to go!

Or get your assistant and/or art slaves to do it for you. If you need an art slave, I'm volunteering. :)

But yeah, seriously -- welcome back!!! YAAAAAAYYY!!!! WOOT! :D

Hey man, nice to see you are back. It's a shame the whole e-bay thing, and the watermark doesn't sound so bad either.
Hope to see more of your great tutorials, maybe part two of the rendering tutorial. As an aspiring hobby comic book artist those kind of things help a long way.

Dave, depending on how you scan you're art in, with photoshop you can either put a watermark over the image using layers and I think certain versions of photoshop even have a watermark filter or option that you can simply add to the piece.

great to have you back

Dave,
I remember talking to you in Ohio about the blog. I am so glad it's back. The watermarking is so simple if you use or have Photoshop. I would be glad to help you set it up or hell I'd do it for you. If interested then either you or your wife may contact me at my Facebook

wow, truly inspiring!! as for watermarks, easily done in photoshop or acrobat. give it a google if your interested ;)

like we all seem to say before in the closing down post - get a deviantart.com account! You can put watermarks on your work at the simple click of a button if you feel the need.

There are dozens of pros there already - david nakayama, steve firchow, joe weems, matt banning justto name a few..

there are already two 'david finch' accounts on the DA website so don't know if any of them are you...

so glad you're back, dave! and i'm sorry to hear about some spoilsports out there trying to profit off your work. these are desperate times and some of society's darker figures cast longer shadows in times as these.

i'm glad you are not giving into cynicism and are continuing with your blog, if only to share with your fans who enjoy taking a peek behind the curtain.

thanks!

Thank you so much for coming back. As always your art is amazing, and you'll always be my favorite.

Concerning one of your pieces-
I was at a convention where you were speaking and you had mentioned that you occasionally miss certain details. You stated one time you drew Supergirl and she didn't have a cape.

Was that this picture that you posted here?
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_B-rWN5FBKb8/TOXI4Q8d9VI/AAAAAAAAAgA/IVQvzDk-ous/s1600/supermansplashsm.jpg

Either way, I think it looks great. Maybe they should just start drawing her without a cape from time to time. It's a nice change up once in a while.

Man I'm so glad you're back! Hey just to offer, if you're interested I'd be more than happy to slap on a watermark on all of your pictures that you post. If you wanted to send the JPEGs or TIFFs to me via e-mail I could go into photoshop and put a watermark on free of charge. Also I'd be more than happy to sign an agreement so that you would be certain that I would not try and steal your art or anything. Think it over and let me know!
